An Update on EVP Concerns
The upcoming May Council still need your immediate attention

May 16, 2005 - An Update on EVP from Dave Cortese:
Dear San Jose Neighbors and Friends,
Thank you for bearing with me on these updates regarding the Evergreen Visioning Project. As of my last message, the Mayor had agreed to a two-week deferral on this issue, supposedly to gain input from the community. Here is what has transpired since:

The Evergreen Task Force spent many hours coming up with some good faith recommendations to augment the Mayor's proposal, in an effort to "meet him half way."

On Monday, May 9, the Mayor met with members of the Evergreen Task Force and was presented with these recommendations.

Near the close of business on Friday, May 13, the Mayor issued a response, rejecting all of the Task Force's recommendations in essence paying lip service to the community's input and leaving very little time for them to respond.

The Mayor has made his position clear: "My way or the highway." This hardball position is disempowering, to say the least, to all of us who call San Jose home. If you care at all about who should have a say in decisions that impact a local community (in Evergreen or elsewhere), attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 17, at 7:00 pm and show the Mayor and City Council the face of the community. (For more information, please contact Dave's office at 408-277-5242 or dave.cortese@sanjoseca.gov .)

In case you're interested, the Evergreen Task Force will be meeting on Monday, May 16, at 7:00 pm and, as always, this meeting is open to the public. (For location, contact Dave's office at 408-277-5242 or Rabia.Chaudhry@sanjoseca.gov ).

Thanks in advance for doing what you can to make a difference in this community.

With very best wishes,

Pattie

April 29, 2005 - An Update on EVP from Dave Cortese:
Don't let them take our school and community dollars away.
In response to Council's action on 4/19/05 our office had during the week verbally exchanged ideas and positions with some of the other offices to discuss the issue further and try to find common ground. A written document was presented just today (I've included the link below) to us. The document has some merits and some serious concerns - therefore we asked for a two week deferral (link to this request is below) so we could consult with the Task Force and subsequently discuss this issue at the
5/17/05 council Meeting. The Mayor's Office has not supported our request for deferral (I've included that link below as well) and so this item is coming to Council on 5/3/05 at 7PM.

More instructions will follow about Tuesday's Meeting but for now, please notify your friends and neighbors - it's more important than ever to be present and vocal at Tuesday night's meeting. Dave's attempt to vet this
latest proposal with the community has been blocked.

Proposal put forward by Mayor, Councilmember Yeager and Councilmember Campos:

Request for deferral from our office:

Request to not defer from Mayor Gonzales:

Thank you for your continued support and efforts. District 8 is very fortunate to have you.
