Many of you have heard about the Evergreen Visioning Project - a community based land use project that was convened by Councilmember Cortese to determine the future development limits
for Evergreen. The project is currently weighing in on limits on development of vacant parcels in Council District 8 while using development money for traffic improvements (such as improving
Highway 101 at Capitol, Tully and Yerba Buena, other traffic improvements) and community amenities (such as a home complex for the Evergreen Little League, a
skate park at Lake Cunningham, the Thompson Creek Trail and much more) to offset the development and improve quality of life.
A Task Force made up of District 8 neighborhood leaders and representatives of
District 8 interests and led by Councilmember Cortese guides the process. THAT IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE, DISTRICT 8 neighborhood leaders ADVISING ON WHAT HAPPENS IN
DISTRICT 8, prior to the full city council making there decisions, not some rubber stamp task force led by the Mayor and his special interest friends.
Whatever your opinions on development
are, YOU are better off having local neighborhood issues debated right here in Evergreen/District 8, not some rubber stamp task force led by the Mayor and his insider friends. No matter what
the issue - traffic, school impact - diluting the task force will only ensure less for our District.
The Mayor and City Council see it differently. They voted at last Tuesday's City Council Meeting to create a new "Specific Plan Task Force" (of only 20 members), eliminating at least 15
current neighborhood members of the Evergreen Task Force and requiring representation from land developers, political insiders and residents from distant areas of the city on the task force. Does that make sense? People who live 10, 12 miles away, deciding on what happens in your backyard?
